Chemical Engineering

B.E. CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

Chemical Engineering deals with the development and application of the principles of physical sciences and chemical changes, along with the principles of economics and human relations relating to the processes of change in state, energy contents and composition of materials. Modern chemical engineering practices, include increasing use of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, mathematical techniques, matrix manipulations and complex variables. The intent of a chemical engineer is to produce a finished product through processes involving various physical or chemical changes in organic and inorganic materials, renewable sources like agricultural and biological materials or non-renewable materials, such as ores, coal and petroleum.

India is poised to create a history in the chemical industry in the next few decades. Vast domestic opportunity, its inherent strength in intellectual capital, access to global financial markets, a sound knowledge of chemistry, strength in software engineering, and rich biodiversity make India a global force in the chemical field.

Selection Procedure

Entrance Test and Interview

Laboratories
The School has labs. relating to Heat Transfer, Mass Transfer, Fluid Mechanics and Mechanical Operations.

Projects & Seminars
Students are required to make presentations on important themes. Topics like cryogenic processes, bio-fuels, catalytic processes, reverse osmosis, bio-petrochemicals, etc., are selected for discussions.

Tours and Trainings
Industrial training is the backbone of practical knowledge, and it is necessary for the students to know the actual processes of chemical industries. Industrial training is provided to the students, after the 4th and the 6th semesters. Organizations such as ONGC, GAIL, HPCL, IOCL, IFFCO, DSCL, SFCL, and DRDO have been providing in-plant training to our students.

Areas of Specialization are:
Fertilizer Industry, Petrochemicals and Petroleum Refinery, Polymer Science and Technology, Process Modeling and Simulation, Biotechnology/ Biochemical/ Biomedical Research, Food Technology, and Computer Aided Design of Process Equipments.
